At least three army personnel were killed in a militant attack on a security checkpost in South Waziristan’s Ladha area on Tuesday.
Ladha, once a stronghold of the Taliban, lies between Kaniguram and Makeen. It is the largest of the agency’s administrative sub-divisions in terms of population. The army had regained control of Ladha from the Taliban in 2009 during Operation Rah-e-Nijat. Meanwhile, army helicopter gunships destroyed a terrorist training camp and ammunition depot in Gurbaz village of North Waziristan’s Shawal district, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The statement added that a number of suspected terrorists were also killed in air strikes.
