The Sindh government has decided to withdraw its recent controversial advertisement for the appointing of registrars and controllers of examination in Sindh’s 19 public sector universities after a meeting between annoyed Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association’s (FAPUASA) delegation and Secretary to Chief Minister on Universities and Boards Iqbal Ahmed Durrani, at CM House on Friday.

The delegation comprised five members including Asif Memon, Dr Jamil Qazmi, Dr Usman Shah and Riasat Ali Kubar, which was led by FAPUASA Sindh’s President Ayaz Ali Keerio. Talking to PPI, Ayaz said they had decided to call off the shutting down of all universities of Sindh from Monday after government decision in their favour.

He said the delegation was assured that no person would be appointed by the Sindh government on the posts of registrar and controller of examination at any university as autonomy of universities would remain intact.

Dr Ayaz informed that the secretary to CM had assured them that the Act 2013 would be amended by provincial assembly to return rights of these appointments to universities again. It may be noted that in the past, the universities had the right to make these appointments, but now the Sindh government had decided to fill these posts through amending the Act.

The FAPUASA had threatened government to withdraw illegal advertisement of appointing these posts without following rules and regulation of universities till August 23, otherwise all 19 universities’ academic and non-academic activities would be suspended for an indefinite period.

Dr Ayaz said they had appreciated the Sindh government’s decision about withdrawal from the appointment of registrars and controllers of examination. He said the secretary had signed the agreement after detailed discussion with the delegation.
