The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Saturday filed a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) challenging delimitations of Karachi and Mirpurkhas constituencies for local government elections.
MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar filed the petition submitting that new delimitations of these constituencies were illegal as the Sindh government had shown favoritism in these limitations.
The petitioner requested the court to declare the delimitation of these constituencies illegal and restrain relevant authorities to conduct local government elections in these constituencies. The petitioner said that these delimitations were in violation of Supreme Court’s order.
Separately, talking to media outside the SHC, Dr Farooq Sattar said the Sindh government had mixed up constituencies of urban and rural areas of Karachi, Naukot and Mirpurkhas.
The MQM leader said during the delimitation process the provincial government had mixed up several areas of district Malir and district Korangi. “This is a provincial government’s tactics aimed at pre-poll rigging.”
He said the government had fixed number of union councils in each district; however, according to law, the number of union councils should be set as per their population.
