All Karachi CNG Rickshaw Association on Wednesday filed a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) against crackdown on CNG rickshaws.

The association named Sindh government, transport ministry, ministry of excise & taxation and DIG traffic police as respondents. The petitioner pleaded the court that CNG rickshaws had been operating on the roads of Karachi for past four years but now traffic police had started crackdown on it.

They submitted that the SHC had imposed a ban on motorcycle/Chingchi rickshaws but traffic police had launched a crackdown on CNG rickshaws which was an illegal act. The petitioner said that the CNG rickshaws were operating in the city and facilitating low-income people. They said over 10,000 families had been suffering because of this ongoing crackdown.

The association requested the court to restrain the respondents from taking action against CNG rickshaws. It is pertinent to mention here that the SHC on 5th August imposed ban on running of motorcycle rickshaws better known as Chingchi rickshaws running without route permits and other necessary documentations on main roads of Karachi and other parts of Sindh.
