Indus continues to be in very high flood at Guddu

The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) Sunday the mighty Indus River was flowing in very high flood at Guddu Barrage and high flood in Sukkur-Kotri Reach.

According to the daily FFC report, the Indua was in medium flood stage at Kalabagh, Chashma and Taunsa barrages, and low flood at Tarbela.

The Kabul River continued to flow in low flood in Warsak-Nowshera Reach while other main rivers, including Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej were flowing normal.

Due to high to very high flood level at Chashma, Taunsa and Guddu-Sukkur & Sukkur-Kotri reaches, the low lying/ riverine areas along the Indus in Punjab and Sindh have been affected. The high flood situation would remain for next few days.

The FFC said the authorities concerned had already been advised to take necessary precautionary measures, so as to avoid loss of life and minimize damages to private and public property. It also advised provincial irrigation departments to ensure round-the-clock patrolling of flood embankments and make necessary arrangements for flood fighting at vulnerable reaches in order to avoid untoward situation.

The actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicated that Tarbela Dam was at its maximum conservation level of 1550 feet, whereas Mangla Dam was at elevation of 1237.30 feet, which was 4.70 feet below its maximum conservation level of 1,242 feet.

According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, seasonal low continued to prevail over north western Balochistan while moist current was penetrating into Punjab and Kashmir upto 4,000 feet.

As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, scattered thunderstorm/rain with heavy falls at one or two places is expected over upper catchments of rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej during the next 24 hours. Isolated thunderstorm/ rain may also occur over northern and northeastern Punjab (Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargodha & Gujranwala Divisions), including upper catchments of rivers Indus and Kabul during the same period.

Significant rainfall events reported during the past 24 hours include Kotnaina 60 mm, Islamabad (Shamsabad 55 mm, Zeropoint & Airport 30 mm each and Saidpur 10 mm), Jassar 19 mm, Daggar 17 mm and Talhatta07 mm.
