The All Private Schools Management Association Sindh (APSMAS) on Friday turned down the Sindh government’s decision to extend vacation of schools in Sindh province till August 11, 215, in view of ongoing flood situation and appealed to review the decision.

APSMAS Chairman Syed Khalid Shah while addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club said that according to previous decision of the Sindh government, all government and private schools were going to open on 3rd August 2015 but after reviewing the recent flood situation in different parts of Sindh it was decided by the government to extend vacations and open schools on 11th of August. He said it seemed that most of the areas of Sindh like Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas were completely safe from floods. He said the Sindh government should have taken this decision in consultation with experts of education sector.

Shah categorically turned down the decision of Sindh government to extend the summer vacations and said they would allow all private schools to open as per the previous notification of Sindh government. He said they were agreed to extend vacations of schools in those districts which were under the danger of flood but closing the schools out of such a danger was unjustified.

Shah said in view of notification issued by the Sindh government, he had already met with Secretary Education Sindh Fazullah Pechooho and appealed him to review the decision.

PPI Chairman Public Private Schools Management Association Sindh Haider Ali said extending vacations was not in favor of education sector. He said the Sindh government should have consulted with experts before announcing such a decision.

He asked Education Minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani to take charge of the education sector immediately and asked the government to reconsider the decision. However, responding to the press conference, Secretary Education Fazullullah Pechooho said they would obey the decisions of Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. He said such associations would be responsible if any student was affected due to their policies.

However, Syed Khalid Shah, Haider Ali and Shehzad Akhtar reiterated that all the private schools would reopen from Monday.
