IGP orders security arrangements for Chinese nationals

Sindh IGP GH Jamali on Friday presided over a high-level meeting at CPO and reviewed the security arrangements for the Chinese nationals expected to visit Sindh province under Pak-China Economic Corridor mega projects. The meeting was attended by Additional IG Special Branch, and other top officials.

DIG RRF Dr Amin Yusuf Zai, who was nominated as focal person for the very purpose, gave away a detailed and comprehensive presentation to IGP and other participants. He informed the meeting that IGP Sindh had already ordered for 500 elites qualified police commandos and placed at his disposal for the security of Chinese nationals in the province. He further submitted a draft SOP for the security of existing Chinese nationals as well as for those coming to the province with regard to Pak-China Economic Corridor mega projects.

Following decisions were made in the meeting: IGP constituted a committee to be headed by Additional IG Special Branch to review and submit the final SOP with in a week time positively. DIG RRF, DIG Administration Karachi Police and Zonal DIsG are the members of the committee. The committee was further directed to obtain point of view/recommendations of all the range DIsG as well before submission of final SOP.

The IG directed DIG SRP to immediately place 500 more police personnel at the disposal of DIG RRF/Focal person for Chinese security. This would raise the total strength to 1000. The IGP also directed AIG logistics to obtain list of the required logistics support and ensure compliance.

The meeting decided to appoint at least 2,000 retired armed forces personnel on contract basis to cope up with the manpower shortage and in this regard a summary would be floated to government shortly. The IGP directed for immediate establishment of a dedicated Provincial Foreigners Security Cell at CPO and districts foreigners security cells in each and every district of the province for ensuring security to some 1600 Chinese nationals already working on 125 different projects, as well as other Chinese nationals who would be coming to Sindh under the Pak-China Economic Corridor mega projects.

“Once the SOP is finalised and issued, the consul general of China and administration heads on various projects should be sensitised and informed accordingly in close liaison with the sponsoring agency/department,” IGP added. The IGP directed Districts SSPs to plan periodical visits to sites of different ongoing projects and review the existing security measures adopted for the Chinese nationals. The SSPs were further directed to ensure submition of detailed report (s) of their time visits to the IG office without any delay.

The IGP further directed for the proper training and sensitization of the police personnel being deputed for the very purpose keeping in view the significance of the responsibilities. He also instructed DIG RRF, focal person and AIG foreigners security CELL to maintain close liaison with each other and with the heads of the provincial foreigners security cell and districts foreigners security cells as soon as they start functioning.
