At least five suspected militants were killed in an alleged encounter in Karachi’s Orangi Town late on Wednesday night.

According to police sources, the encounter ensued after a police party signaled suspicious people travelling in a car and on a motorcycle to stop for checking but the occupants opened fire on them and fled. The sources said that the police team chased the suspected militants and intercepted them near a graveyard where a shootout began, resulting in the killing of five suspects while their other accomplices managed to escape in the cover of darkness.

Police said that upon searching the vehicle, they had found a large number of weapons and explosives which were probably being transported by the suspects. Bodies of the militants were shifted to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification.
