As many as five unidentified men barged into the house of Mian Afzal Hayat, former caretaker chief minister of Punjab and former chairman of Central Majlis-e-Iqbal, located in Cavalry Ground on Wednesday and took away jewellery worth Rs 1.8 million.
Afzal Hayat told Pakistan Today that the five robbers entered his house at around 3pm and made his family members hostage on gunpoint for approximately 20 minutes. He said the robbers fled after looting the jewelry. “The robbers searched the house completely and left only when their accomplice sitting outside in the getaway car signaled them to come out,” he added. He said that an application had been submitted in the South Cantonment Police Station.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantonment Imtiaz Sarwar said that an FIR would soon be registered on Afzal Hayat’s complaint.
“I am quite hopeful that the culprits would be nabbed soon because none of them were covering their faces, so the police will try to draw their sketches with the help of family members,” he said.
