The Pakistan Super League (PSL), a franchise-based T20 tournament due for its first season in 2016, is in doubt according to PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan.

The PSL was scheduled to begin in February in the UAE. But the Masters Champions League, a T20 tournament for retired cricketers, has booked the major venues for two weeks during that window.

There were plans to shift the PSL to Qatar, but with only one stadium of international quality available and time running out to organise the event, Shaharyar admitted the prospects of the tournament looked “dicey”

“I’m not a great T20 man so I’ve left this project to Najam Sethi and the others, ” Shaharyar told Dawn. “But at the moment, it’s looking dicey. And at this late stage, to go to Qatar and put everything right for February, it’s going to be difficult. My theory is that if you can’t do something well, don’t do it.”

The PSL has been already been shelved twice before. Logistical issues led to anindefinite postponement in 2013. There was an attempt to revive the tournament in 2014, with the PCB inviting parties to acquire the PSL rights. But the quality of the bids meant the PCB decided to put it on hold again.
