The Sindh government decided to sack Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui as administrator of Karachi, sources said on Tuesday.

The sources said that additional charge of the administrator to Siddiqui affected the commissionerate system in Karachi. The performance of Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui had become zero after taking additional responsibility.

Last week the Sindh government had given Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui additional charge of administrator of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to replace Roshan Ali Sheikh just a few days after it backed out from the same move when Saqib Soomro flew out of the country ‘on leave’ leaving the office vacant, officials said.

Though there was no word from the Sindh local bodies ministry on the decision and reason behind it, an official at the Karachi commissioner office confirmed having received a notification from the provincial government that announced the additional assignment for Mr Siddiqui.

The notification had been received and the Karachi commissioner was well aware of it, said the official. “The notification asks Mr Siddiqui to take the additional charge with immediate effect,” the notification read.

Senior officials and sources aware of the functions of the local bodies’ operational wings say that for all practical purposes the city has no chief of its key civic and municipal organisation for the past few weeks as it is being operated on ad-hoc arrangements.

Meanwhile, after major reshuffle in Sindh administration, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has called a meeting in Dubai to discuss the new situation. The meeting will deliberate over shifting of departments among cabinet ministers.

The members will also discuss the matter of woman members’ participation and decrease in number of special assistants.

Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Sharjeel Memon and Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah have left for Dubai.

According to sources, the meeting will discuss new situation after major reshuffle in the provincial administration. The meeting would be jointly headed by party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

The meeting will also discuss ongoing operation in Karachi and shifting of departments among ministers after assessment of their performances.
