Capital’s rural areas facing acute water shortage

Rural areas of the federal capital have been facing severe water shortage as authorities have slashed supply from water schemes for unknown reasons.

The water shortage has hit may localities in rural Islamabad including Chak Shahzad, Bani Gala, Pona Fakiran and other areas, whose residents have been facing acute shortage of water.

The residents said that water from public schemes was supplied to them after two to three days and that too only for one hour. The said that their tanks have gone dry but the authorities were not heeding to their water woes.

“There is no proper mechanism for water supply in rural areas and in some areas including union council Sowan water has become a rare commodity,” Ahar Ali, a resident of Sowan locality said.

Anjum Khan, a resident of Bani Gala, said that except for posh residents many residents who rely on the government water supply scheme have been facing severe water shortage.

The rural area residents have demanded that water scarcity issue should immediately be solved to mitigate their miseries in the scorching heat.
