IG Prisons directs DIGs to conduct surprise visits of prisons

All Deputy Inspectors General and Superintendents Jail across the province have been directed to pay surprise visits to jails under their jurisdiction on Eid. Inspector General of Prisons Punjab Mian Farooq Nazeer in an exclusive interview told APP here on Friday that no laxity would be tolerated on strict enforcement of security measures.

Nazeer directed them that the jails should not be left unattended even after office hours and all officers must perform duty in rotation.

Cautioning that security should be beefed up to optimum level to avert any untoward incident, he said that at least two assistant superintendents should be present inside jails from dusk to dawn.

The Prisons chief directed that the outer wall of jails must be guarded carefully every day and there should be a check on the entry of all unauthorized people. He further issued directions to ensure that the network of close circuit televisions and jammers must be operational to check movements inside and outside jails.

Nazeer said that all relatives of inmates who visit jail for seeing prisoners must be thoroughly searched with metal detectors at the entry point of prisons. He said food should be cooked under the supervision of Assistant Superintendents of jail and the jail doctor.

The prisons chief said all regional DIGs including DIG Inspection and Superintendents had been directed to ensure proper compliance of security instructions in their respective jails through surprise visits. The IG directed all regional DIGs will pay surprise visits to different jails to check the security.
