Rangers claim success in bringing down crime rate in Karachi

Since the start of Karachi Operation in September, 2013, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) have arrested over 10,000 suspects, while more than 350 terrorists were killed in encounters with paramilitary personnel, said a Rangers spokesperson on Wednesday.

A report issued by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) on Wednesday said that Rangers conducted 5,795 operations across Karachi, during which 10,353 suspects were arrested out of which 4995 were handed over to police. The paramilitary personnel seized over 7,000 illegal arms of different kinds and more than 300,000 live rounds from arrested suspects.

On the whole, 364 terrorists met their fate in 224 encounters with Rangers. During the operation which started on September 5, 2013, Rangers apprehended 826 terrorists, 334 target killers and 26 extortionists. Moreover, 82 kidnappers were arrested and 49 kidnapping hostages were freed.
