The Supreme Court has directed Sindh authorities to provide fool-proof security to the family of the deceased Perveen Rehman, a social activist, who was killed in Karachi by unidentified assailants last year.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Nasirul-Mulk issued the directives after the Karachi police submitted an interim report into the murder case of the Rehman.
Sindh Police Deputy Inspector General Sultan Khawaja and Senior Superintendent of Police Pir Muhammad Shah and other senior officials were also present.
The police while submitting the progress report informed the apex court that the main accused in the case, Raheem Sawat, has been located and will be arrested soon. The police requested the court to allocate more time to make further investigation.
They assured the court that a detailed report of the case will be presented before the court within a short span of time.
The sister of the deceased, who was also present during the hearing, told the court that her family was receiving threats from unidentified persons. She requested the court to issue directives to the authorities to provide her family a full security.
The bench directed the DIG, the CID and other authorities to ensure fool-proof security to the deceased’s family and adjourned the hearing till July 28.
