Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said on Monday that the Sindh government is ready for holding local bodies elections under security cover of the police and Rangers.
“We are prepared for local bodies elections. But they will be held under the police and the rangers. Army can by a stand-by force in case of any unforeseen circumstances,” Qaim said while responding to media during his visit to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
The chief minister further said that Supreme Court of Pakistan had fixed December 20, 2015 as the deadline for Sindh to hold local bodies elections and Sindh government has made preparations accordingly.
“Now, the ball is in the Election Commission’s court. It is up to the commission to announce the election schedule,” he remarked.
However, he added, witnessing the bad experience of the recently held local bodies elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh Government would recommend that the elections process be completed in the province in three phases for ensuring peace and transparency.
He pointed out that during General Musharraf’s government the local bodies elections were completed in three months in Sindh province.
He said that Sindh government strongly believed in devolution of powers.
