The Met office has forecast beginning of Monsoon season in upper parts of the country from Sunday midnight.
According to a Met office spokesman, a weather system from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is heading towards Pakistan and would cause monsoon rains with thundershower in Kashmir, Hazara, Islamabad and Rawalpindi divisions from tonight.
He said the system would extend upto Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha and Sahiwal divisions on Monday. He said that a less than normal Monsoon with some uncertainties is expected in the country during the upcoming season from July to September this year.
However, a few extreme rainfall events may occur over AJK, North-east Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulting into flooding due to interaction of easterly and westerly systems.
In the meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert about the upcoming heavy monsoon rains in all districts of the province.
A press release issued by the authority here on Sunday says that rain is expected in Hazara division on Sunday and a day after on Monday.
Similarly scattered rain is likely in rest of the province. All the relevant departments have been directed to be ready for any emergency.
