  • CM says institute will be state of the art, unique project in South Asia

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over the meeting of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute and Research Centre (PKLTI&RC) Board of Governors on Sunday.

Board of Governors President Professor Dr Saeed Akhtar gave detailed briefing regarding various affairs of the project. The meeting gave approvals to some matters pending issues.

Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz said that the project of the PKLTI&RC is of special importance with regard to public health and this institution will be state of the art institute of South Asia where modern medical facilities will be available to kidney and liver patients under one roof while facility of kidney and liver transplant will also be available.

“The PKLTI&RC will be a milestone in public health sector,” he said, adding that the project will have to be completed speedily by working with national spirit and hard work.

He said that PKLTI&RC will be a splendid project as facilities of international standard will be available to common man in an excellent atmosphere in this institution.

He said that a research centre will also be set up in the institution while a programme has been evolved to establish a medical university as well. The Chief Minister directed that planning should be made for recruitment of specialist doctors and nurses for the institute.

“The Punjab government will also arrange training of doctors and nurses from abroad out of its own pocket,” he added.

He said that due attention should be paid to all matters during planning and designing of the project, adding that the resources are a national trust and their proper and transparent utilisation should be ensured.

The chief minister also issued instructions for the setting up of a technical sub-committee for making immediate decisions on some matters and said that institutions concerned should ensure all out cooperation regarding the project. He said that no effort should be spared for the achievement of the fixed timeline.

He further directed that provincial steering committee should hold meeting regularly after every 15 days.

Advisor on Health Salman Rafique, Planning and Development chairman, secretaries of Finance, Health, Communication and Works, Housing departments, commissioner Lahore Division, DCO Lahore, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines managing director, LESCO chief executive officer and officials concerned and members of board of governors PKLTI&RC attended the meeting.
