The Sindh government has stopped salary of 140 employees of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) besides issuing show-cause notices to 33 employees including 27 doctors, Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government, Sharjeel Inaam Memon said.

During a visit to ASH to assess the needs of the KMC-run hospital catering to the medical needs of a significant population of Karachi, he said an action was being taken against ghost employees across the province.

The show-cause notices were said to be issued to the ASH employees and doctors found absent without any intimation to the administration or failing to resume their duties on completion of sanctioned leave.

The minister also accompanied by KMC Administrator Roshan Shaikh, Commissioner of Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui and other officers appreciated the measures adopted by ASH administration to cater the emergency medical needs of heatstroke victims. The minister, however, commented that there was no justification in playing politics on natural disasters and miseries of the people.

Memon attributed power crisis as the main cause for 50 percent of heatstroke-related casualties and cited K-electric as the major culprit.

The minister said it was ironical that K-electric claimed to have earned billions of rupees for the services provided to the citizens yet its system continued to be out-dated and non-functional consequently people faced worst kind of load shedding during summer.

Memon said that the provincial government realizing its responsibility declared emergency in all government hospitals and prompt treatment was provided to affected people.
