Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed has said that Punjab government has allocated a record 27 percent of the entire development budget for education. He said that an amount of 8.5 billion rupees has been allocated to renovate crumbling school buildings throughout the province. Such schools have been identified and their construction will be initiated soon, he added.
While addressing the meeting of steering committee constituted in connection with identification and construction of dilapidated school buildings, Mashhood said that the government is providing all resources for provision of quality education.
Chairman Punjab Education Foundation Raja Qamar ul Islam, Secretary Schools Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, Special Secretary Schools Ahmed Ali Kamboh and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion. Mashhood said that several steps were being taken to provide missing facilities in schools and to enhance enrolment. The construction of dangerous school buildings will be started soon and negligence will not be tolerated in this regard. He said that a third party audit of construction will be conducted to maintain transparency. Secretary Schools told the meeting that around many as 892 schools buildings are completely damaged whereas 2638 schools are partially affected.
