ECP extends poll tribunals’ tenure by two months

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday extended the tenures of tribunals working countrywide for the fourth time by at least two months, directing them to finish hearings of the pending election petitions as soon as possible.

Per details, the tribunals that have been extended include three in Punjab, one in Sindh and another in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). All five tribunals have as many as 25 cases pending collectively. However, the Rawalpindi tribunal has been dissolved as there was no case pending there.

The tribunals were formed after the General Elections 2013 to hear petitions regarding controversial constituencies within at least 120 days. It has been two years and still the petitions are pending.
