Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Thursday expressed his displeasure over unscheduled load shedding in the beginning of Ramzan.
He was chairing the 16th meeting of the cabinet committee on energy at the PM House.
The prime minister directed officials that in addition to increasing supply of electricity, measures should also be taken simultaneously to upgrade the transmission and distribution infrastructure. The secretary water and power briefed the meeting on load management in Ramzan.
The secretary informed the meeting that except for the first day of the holy month, when an unprecedented heat wave entered the southern part of country, followed by thunderstorms in few parts of the country next day, which disturbed the transmission and distribution system, load shedding during Ramzan is being done as per the approved plan with no load shedding during Sehr and Iftar timing.
The meeting discussed in detail the power supply situation in Karachi and matters related to KESC, expressing its concern that KESC is not generating electricity at its full capacity and instead is taking 650 MW from the national grid.
