400 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrive in Lahore

Over 400 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrived on Sunday at Wahga Railway Station by a special train to observe the 176th death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh in Gurdwara Dera Sahib.

Evacuee Trust Property Board (BTPB) Chairman Muhammad Siddiqul Farooq, Additional Secretary Shrine Khalid Ali and office bearers of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) received them warmly at the Wahga Railway Station.

The government has made foolproof security arrangements besides immigration, customs, bank and medical facilities at the Wahga Railway Station to facilitate the pilgrims.

Talking to the media, ETPB Chairman Siddiqul Farooq said Sikh religious places were considered very sacred in Pakistan and they had great importance.

To a question, he hoped that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would struggle for peace in the region. He said agenda of the Indian prime minister was economic development of his own country only while Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Shairf’s agenda was not only ensuring economic development in Pakistan but also in the entire region that would definitely restore peace in the region. He said Pakistan wanted to resolve all issues, including Kashmir, through dialogue.

Group leader of Sikh yatrees Ram Pal Singh Bheewal thanked for the best arrangements made by the Pakistani government and the ETPB. Soon after their arrival, the Sikh pilgrims will leave for Janamastan of Baba Gurunanak Sahib at Nankana Sahib where they will stay till June 24 and perform rituals.

On June 25, the pilgrims will leave for Gurdwara Punja Sahib Hassanabad and stay for one day. They will go back to Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore on June 26 and will perform their special rituals in Dera Sahib on June 29. The pilgrims will return to their country on June 30.
