The national institutions cannot be strong and function properly unless corruption was controlled, said Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq while speaking at an Iftar dinner in the city on Saturday.

He said that corruption had spread all around and the citizens could not get their lawful acts done without bribing the officials concerned.

“Revolt from the path of Allah was the root cause of all social evils as this has ended respect and regard for one another in the society. Everybody is out to cheat the other,” he said.

The JI chief said that poverty, unemployment and lawlessness had plunged the majority of the people into depression and frustration.

He said that an across the board accountability was essential for putting the country on the road to progress and prosperity. He said that the rulers were treating the masses as untouchables and there was no scheme for the public good on the government agenda.

“The rulers wanted to squeeze every drop of blood from the body of the poor,” he added.

He said that the JI was trying its best to free the masses from the clutches of the feudal lords and capitalists.
