The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved a judgment  on the maintainability of a petition challenging government’s move to allow Save the Children to continue operations.

An IHC single-bench led by Justice Amir Farooq on Thursday heard the petition filed by the Shuhada Foundation Pakistan.

Counsel for the petitioner, Tariq Asad argued that Save the Children was involved in working against the interests of Pakistan and the government has put the national integrity at stake by allowing the organization to continue its operations. He requested that the court should pass an order to halt its operations in Pakistan.

The court maintained that there was no specific law in place with regard to operations of NGOs and international NGOs could not be stopped from working.

The petitioner’s counsel told the court that “our intelligence agencies have provided credible reports that Save the Children was indulged in such activities which have put the national integrity at stake and therefore the court should stop the NGO from working,” he pleaded.

The court reserved the judgment on the maintainability of the petition and adjourned hearing till next date to be set by the office.
