Two more fall prey to dengue in city

Two more dengue patients died in Karachi on Tuesday raising the death toll to three in the country.

According to details, the deceased patients were admitted to a hospital following a high grade fever. The doctors stated that both the patients died while undergoing a medical treatment.

On the other hand, chief of dengue pre vaccination and control programme Dr Shakeel verified that at least three people across Pakistan had lost their lives due to dengue and revealed that as many as 500 dengue patients were still under treatment in Karachi.

Dengue fever is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes and is a global public health concern. There is no vaccine for the virus, which kills an estimated 20,000 people each year and infects up to 100 million, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Some experts, however, say the number of people infected each year could be more than the three times the WHO estimate. The current approach to curbing the dengue is fumigation of sites where mosquitoes carrying the disease breed.

Moreover, the doctors have advised to use mosquito net to prevent from being ill.
