Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to Secretary Election Commission (EC), interior secretary and secretary National Assembly on the petition challenging the Local Bodies (LB) polls scheduled for July 25th in Islamabad. The court has sought reply from them on Wednesday.
A division bench of IHC presided over by Justice Noor ul Haq Qureshi took up hearing of the case filed by Qamar Mustafa and others on Monday.
Counsel for petitioner Mubin ud Din Qazi took the plea bill in the court regarding LB polls in Islamabad. The bill has been approved only by National Assembly (NA) yet and needs the approval the president and senate to become effective.
The litigant further noted that the interior ministry was not authorized to delimit constituencies and notification issued in this regard was illegal.
The court inquired whether the litigant was challenging the bill or the notification. Mubin ud Din Qazi replied that “we have challenged both”.
The court maintained it could not interfere in the parliamentary proceedings.
The court issued notices to secretary election commission, interior secretary, NA secretary and sought their reply by Wednesday.
