The Sindh High Court on Thursday directed the Rangers officers to allow the family members of Moazzam Ali Khan, an alleged financer of the murderers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s leader Dr Imran Farooq, to meet the detainee in penitentiary.
A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh directed the federal authorities to submit comments on the petition till next hearing.
The petitioner, Sadia Bano, the wife of Moazzam Ali Khan, filed a constitutional petition against detention of her spouse.
The woman petitioner submitted that the personnel of paramilitary force raided her house located in the Block 8 of the Federal B Area, near the Azizabad on early hours of April 12 and took away her husband and his belongings, including a laptop.
In the plea, she said, her spouse was presented before an anti-terrorism court by the Rangers personnel, who told the court that Moazzam was detained for 90 days for questioning. “At that time, Rangers personnel assured them that the family members will be allowed to meet the detainee at any time,” she said.
Bano regretted that neither she nor other family members are being allowed to meet Moazzam, who was incarcerated at Karachi Central Prison. She made similar requests to DIG South, who is heading the joint investigation team interrogating Moazzam, but to no avail, she added.
