Police on Friday said they had arrested another accomplice of the gruesome terrorist attack on a bus in Karachi which claimed the lives of 46 members of the minority Ismaili community.

According to in-charge of the Sindh Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) SSP Raja Umer Khatab, police have also recovered a vehicle and weapons used in the attack. According to sources, suspect Asadur Rehman has confessed to shooting people inside the bus.

The senior police official said that CTD personnel acted on intelligence, carrying out an operation in Super Highway area and arresting another suspect. The suspect is said to be one of 10 attackers involved in the bus attack which took place near Karachi’s Safoora Chowrangi area and admitted firing inside the bus.

Khatab said a Daihatsu Coure vehicle, which was suspected of being used in the terrorist attack, was recovered from a residential building near Super Highway. Weapons used in the attack were also recovered in the raid, he said.

Four attackers have already been arrested who, according to police and government officials, have confessed to being involved in the attack. The four suspects – Saad Aziz, Muhammad Azhar Ishrat, Haafiz Nasir, Tahir Hussain Minhas – have been sent by the anti-terrorism court on 14 day remand for further investigation and interrogation.

On May 13, eight gunmen attacked a bus travelling in Safoora Goth, killing at least 46 people. Most of the victims were members of the Ismaili community.
