Internal rifts causing Metro delays?

The inauguration of the Islamabad Rawalpindi Metro Bus Project (MBP) has been delayed again due to internal clashes within Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Sources in the admiration told that MBP Chairman Hanif Abassi wants to inaugurate the project in between the twin cities, whereas his opponents within the party want to hold inauguration ceremony in Liaqat Bagh Rawalpindi.

The inauguration date was set by the government on May 29, 2015, which is being missed today and a new date of June 6, 2015 has been given.

The spokesman for the project told that development work on the project has been completed whereas the cleaning and revamping work is being done speedily.

While addressing a high level meeting held in Islamabad regarding Metro Bus Project on Tuesday, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif said that such transport facilities will become available to the citizens of twin cities with the inauguration of project.

He said that it is a splendid project for eliminating transport problems and spending of resources on the masses.

Shahbaz Sharif said that this project of public service will soon be inaugurated and it will be an important day for the citizens of the twin cities.

Project director Rawalpindi-Islamabad Zahid Saeed presented details of transport service before the CM Punjab.

Earlier, the MBS chairman had requested the CM Punjab to extend the launch date to which he responded that the new date would be approved with consultation of other stake holders.

“Almost an year has gone by but the MBS yet to be completed. The project was planned and executed very poorly with zero regard for the environment or for alternate traffic planning during construction. It has been a great inconvenience for the citizens and has been a health risk to many people,” Kashif Rehman, a citizen of Islamabad told to Pakistan Today.
