President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan wants to expand its relations with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) through robust parliamentary participation in, so that democracy and democratic institutions can be further strengthened.
He was talking to Secretary General IPU Martin Chungong in Islamabad Monday. The president stated that democracy in Pakistan is firmly entrenched and called for further fostering of partnership between Pakistan and IPU.
The president said that the Parliament of Pakistan would appreciate IPU’s assistance in its capacity building.
The president also urged the secretary general to ensure the presence of Pakistanis in the IPU Secretariat, which at present has no participation from Pakistan.
