The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday reinstated Chaudhry Rashid Ahmed as the chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
President Mamnoon Hussain had dismissed Ahmed from the position in April 2014.
Earlier in December 2013 , the PML-N government had terminated Ahmed’s contract declaring the appointment ab-initio (illegal from the very beginning) and appointed Pervez Rathore, an executive member of the authority, as acting chairman.
The IHC had suspended the sacking of Ahmed in the same month that year and reinstated him as PEMRA chairman. He obtained a stay order from the court for his temporary reinstatement, but he could not resume his duties because the government did not withdraw the notification about the appointment of Rao Tehsin as acting PEMRA chief.
The former information and broadcasting secretary was appointed as PEMRA chairman for four years by the Pakistan People’s Party-led government on Jan 26, 2013.
