Standardisation augments KPPPRA capabilities

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan directed the concerned officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Procurement Regulatory Authority that the procedures for public procurement should be organised with a view to improve the quality of the working of public entities/organisations.

Innovative changes should be made to ensure transparency, accountability and good management in KPPPRA. The Governor also directed FATA officers to arrange training for its officers through KPPPRA and get benefit of their experience.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting with the Officers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Procurement Regulatory Authority at the Governor’s House Peshawar on Thursday. FATA Additional Chief Secretary Muhammad Aslam Kamboh, KPPPRA Managing Director Syed Muhammad Javed, Principal Secretary to Governor Dr. Muhammad Fakhar e Alam, Dr. Faizan, Director  Siraj-ul-Haq, and Qasim were present in the meeting.

A detailed presentation was given by managing director of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Procurement Regulatory Authority, which entails purpose of KPPPRA, general principles of KPPPRA, procurement methods, ethical conduct and participant responsibility. Managing Director (KPPPRA) said, “the purpose of KPPPRA is to create on autonomous body, capable of providing legal and regulatory framework to provincial departments and other public entities/organisation for procurement”.

The governor emphasised, “to review the working of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority in other countries like Turkey, Malaysia and Singapore so that the standardised method of their system should be inculcated in our system. This will promote transparency and improve quality in the process of procurement.”

The governor reiterated, “the role of KPPPRA is to work as a watchdog on public entities or organizations to improve their efficiency through transparent accountability”. He further stressed that the rules of KPPPRA should be amended for the purpose of standardisation and maintaining a checklist for procedures.
