KARACHI:

At least six Lyari gangwar suspects were killed in encounters with paramilitary troops and police late Wednesday evening, according to local media sources.

“Rangers, who were out on the hunt for violent criminals in Chakiwara and Jahanabad areas of violence-torn Lyari, engaged in a gunfight with gangmen associated with Arshad Pappu group. Five outlaws went down at the end of the fight,” a Rangers spokesman told media.

According to Rangers officials, three gangsters broke out of the encounter and disappeared in the dark alleys. “Our men are hot on their trail. They will not be able to stay at large for long,” said he.

The slain felons have been identified as Jamal and Riaz, while the identity of the others remains to be found out, sources stated.
