PTI chief slams Morsi’s death sentence

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday expressed concern after an Egyptian court sentenced the deposed president Mohamed Morsi to death for his role in a mass jailbreak in 2011.

“Sentencing of deposed President Morsi to death bodes ill for the Egyptian people and for Egyptian democracy,” Imran said in a message posted on micro-blogging website Twitter.

Comparing Morsi’s sentence to the hanging of former Pakistani prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in 1979, the PTI chairman called on Egypt to “learn from Pakistan’s bitter experience”. “Pakistan has suffered tremendously as a result of the hanging of its democratic leader Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto by a military dictator,” he added.

“The Pakistani nation and democracy in Pakistan continue to suffer the fallout from Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s hanging as the Pakistani polity stands polarised and militarised even today,” he was quoted as saying in a press statement issued by the PTI.

Khan said that sentencing democratically elected leaders to death “does not kill their ideas and aspirations”. “Ideas that bring leaders to power through the ballot box cannot be obliterated through deposing them undemocratically and then sentencing them to death. The only real battle of ideas is fought through the ballot box by winning the support of the people,” he said.

  1. Oh and he wanted to make Islamabad Tehrir Square often asking people to kill government workers, rulers and police. I wonder if that was not ill according to Imran's standards (which are yet to be discovered)

  2. So hanging is permissible only by civilian dictator. This Imran Khan logic would be acceptable only if he was not an Oxford graduate and a political party leader. Apparently History is not his strong point or some say he is a little deficient up there. Both seem to be true after this guffa. If he is a ZA Bhutto fan then why make PTI, just join PPP and owe allegiance to Zardari! ZA was a very sinister character in our history who would not differentiate between friend and foe when his self was involved. So he created a special force called FSF. He killed some and roughed up some from his own followers. Like Nawaz Sharif he hated opposition and Army. While Nawaz Sharif operates incognito ZA due to inborn arrogance was ruthless. Morally weak he was also an ardent student of Machiavelli the evil genius.ZA along with his two accomplices met the fate destined by Divinity.

  3. Turkish President and Imran Khan are only two leaders who have protested against the barbaric treatment of the West supported Egyptian tyrant Sisi – against the truly and freely elected President of Egypt, Morsi. The so called champions of democracy and human rights have even refused to recognize the revolt of General Sisi and his barbaric army, as such. In fact millions of dollars have flown to this modern Pharaoh from the U.S., the Europeans and some Gulf rulers.
