The Senate on Thursday started a discussion on a public petition regarding an increase in the upper age limit for CSS examination, especially for the candidates belonging to Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and other underdeveloped areas.
Those who took part in the discussion were Sehar Kamran, Gian Chand, Osman Kakar, Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Abdul Qayyum, Mir Kabir Ahmad, Rubina Irfan, Dr Karim Ahmad Khawaja and Dr Ashok Kumar. They advocated for enhancement of upper age limit for CSS examination particularly for the candidates belonging to backward areas.
Winding up discussion, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House that the public petition with recommendations of the House should be sent to the government for appropriate action. He said there is no harm increasing the upper age limit for the CSS exams from 28 years to 30 years.
Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq said the age limit should be increased for all candidates without any discrimination. The chair disposed of the public petition in the light of the assurance given by the Minister of Shaikh Aftab Ahmad, expecting that the Federal Government shall immediately undertake necessary amendments in the law for this purpose.
Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Saleem Mandviwalla regarding decision of the government to close the markets at 8pm in Islamabad, Minister of State for Interior Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman told the House that it is a good decision and the government intends to carry it forward.
He said the Cabinet Committee on Energy has taken the decision that shops will be closed at 8pm, marriage halls at 10 pm and restaurants at 11 pm, and the government is making efforts to enforce this decision.
Earlier, the chair rejected an adjournment motion by Dr Jahanzeb Jamaldini and others to discuss the non-absorption of two doctors working in PIMS namely Dr Niaz Baloch and Dr Farooq Shah against the quota of their respective provinces in PIMS Islamabad. The chair said individual cases cannot be taken as adjournment motion.
State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmed told the Senate that a total of eight-water filtration plants out of 38 plants in the federal capital were not in working condition.
Answering the question of Ms Samina Abid, he said the work has already been initiated on repair of the faulty filtration plants.
The routine maintenance of 38 water filtration plants was being carried out on annual basis. The sand and carbon filter media, cartridge filters are replaced periodically as well as UV Lamps, water taps, etc are being replaced as and when required.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri directed ministries to ensure timely answers of the questions of Senators.
In a written reply to the question of Siraj-ul-Haq, Minister In Charge of Cabinet Division said as many as 20,000 applications have been received for allotment of flats in sector I-15 in 2005. Out of which 4,078 allottees have not taken their money back from CDA. The balance of amount deposited by the applications with CDA is Rs 4,099.526 million.
The authority has decided to allot five marla plots (25*50) in lieu of flats in sector I-15. The matter for development of software is under process, the date of balloting would be announced and therefore the allotment letters would be issued accordingly.
He said the price of plot to be allotted in lieu of flat is Rs 7930 per square yard based on actual development cost plus land price assessed in PC -1 of the sector I-15. Accordingly the cost of plot measuring 139 (25*50) square yard is Rs 1,102270.
If a favorable decision is to be taken then it must be announced immediately so that aspirants start studying as the pattern of papers and grouping of subjects has changed.
