The Punjab government has already accepted all genuine demands of teachers and will spare no effort for their welfare in future as well, said Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan while talking to journalists in the presence of heads of teachers’ organisations at the Civil Secretariat on Monday.
Secretary Schools Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, Deputy Secretary Ahmed Kamboh, EDO Lahore Pervaiz Akhtar and officers concerned were present on the occasion.
“It is the vision of Punjab chief minister that no child should remain out of school and a number of steps are being taken for the promotion of quality education and achieving this objective,” Mashhood said.
He said that teachers have special place in education sector, therefore, the government has always accepted genuine demands of teachers. Apprising about the steps taken regarding the teachers, he said that the summary for regularising contractual teachers has been sent to the chief minister for approval, which will benefit 50,000 teachers.
He said that the action taken on the basis of results of Grade 5, 8 and 9 has been stop on the demand of teachers’ organisations.
“The EDOs have been instructed to complete the promotion process upto Grade 16 by May 31 whereas the promotion process of teachers from Grade 17 to 20 has already been completed,” he added.
He said that all DCOs and EDOs have been directed not to take non-teaching duties from teachers.
Accepting the demands of the teachers, he said the recommendations regarding authority of PST to deputy DEO instead of DEO has been sent to the authority concerned.
“Repeater students will not be considered drop out and no action will be taken against their teachers,” he said.
He further said that free provision of syllabus books has been ensured whereas 1,300 teachers have been promoted to facilitate their posting as headmasters and head teachers against vacant posts.
TEACHERS STILL ON ROADS
Meanwhile, protest of teachers outside the Punjab Assembly, Faisal Chowk, entered into fourth day on Monday.
As per details, the protesters demanded to permanent the employees hired on ad-hoc basis, increase the salaries and to renew the pay scale process.
The protesting teachers, coming from different areas of the province, further warned of continuing the protest until the government fulfils their demand.
