The Sindh High Court has directed a civil rights campaigner to place on record the details of the persons killed by former SSP Malir Rao Anwaar in alleged fake police encounters.
A division bench, headed by Justice Naimtullah Phulpoto, was hearing a petition filed by Rana Faizul Hassan, a civil right campaigner and secretary general of the United Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, who moved the court seeking an inquiry into the police encounters carried out by ex-SSP Malir Rao Anwaar in the past six months.
In the petition, Rana alleged that Rao Anwaar had killed over 60 accused persons in fake encounters over the past six months, adding these persons were never produced in any court, nor did they receive a fair trial.
He told the judges that the police force had picked up these persons from their respective areas and killed them in gunfights where not a single man from the police force received an injury.
The police force had no right to pick up a person and kill them in a fake encounter. This is a violation of the article 4, 8, 10, 14, 15 and 24 of the Constitution.
Citing Sindh chief secretary, home secretary, IG Sindh, secretary law SSP Rao Anwaar, the petitioner pleaded to the court to summon details of the encounters conducted in past five years and order an inquiry into these encounters. The court was further pleaded to order the authorities to place Rao Anwaar’s name on the Exit Control List.
