The first baby born at a hospital set up in Nepal by the Pakistan Army has been named after the city of Lahore, foreign office said Thursday.

Pakistan sent relief goods and rescue teams to the earthquake devastated Himalayan nation, including army paramedics who have set up a 30-bed field hospital in the town of Bhaktapur in Kathmandu valley.

A massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal last week, flattening buildings and killing over 5,500 people in what is said to be one of the worst natural disasters in the country.

The Pakistan Army has so far sent four C-130 aircrafts filled with relief goods to aid the neighbouring country. In addition to doctors and paramedics, special engineering equipment and trained teams of army personnel have also been sent to the quake-hit region to help rescue operations.
