As many as two policemen were shot death within a span of half an hour in two late night occurrences in different areas of Karachi while 70 suspects were arrested on early Sunday morning.
According to details, a policeman, Ghulam Rasool, was gunned down in SurjaniTown area of Sector 36-B. Just half an hour later, another policeman was killed in the limit of Karachi airport police station. The deceased belonged to special branch and was identified as Sub Inspector Azhar Jaffri.
Bodies of the two deceased were shifted to AbbasiShaheedHospital and JinnahHospital respectively. Meanwhile, police conducted search operations in different areas of the city and arrested 70 suspects on Sunday.
The search operation was conducted in Sarjani area of TaiseerTown where 30 suspects were arrested. Gulsha Iqbal police conducted a search operation in areas of Gulistan-e-Johar and Gulshan Iqbal and arrested 40 suspects.
Plugging the entry and exits points of the areas, police personnel conducted search operation at certain particular houses and captured the suspected people. However, no firearms or other sabotage instruments were recovered in the operation. SP Gulshan-e-Iqbal Abid Qaimkhani said the search operation was conducted on a tip-off and 40 people had been nailed so far from Gulistan-e-Johar and Gulshan Iqbal.
He said these people would be interrogated and cases would be lodged against those who were found involved in criminal activities and those who were suspicious.
