LHC CJ says pre-2007 cases will be cleared by July

Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik said that close coordination between the bar and bench is vital for speedy trial and provision of justice.

“Litigants should not suffer to get justice on merit basis; it is prime responsibility of all stakeholders and concerned with judiciary to extend their cooperation in fulfilling legal requirements so that the decisions of under trail cases could be announced without any delay,” he said while addressing the office bearers of High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi Bench, District Bar Associations of Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum and Bar Association of Rawalpindi Division.

Senior Judge Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa, Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, Justice Arshad Mehmood Tabasum, Justice Khalid Mehmood Malik, Justice Ch Muhammad Masood Jahngir, Justice Masud Abid Naqvi, Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, district and session judges and senior lawyers were present on the occasion.

Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik said that the main objective of judiciary system is to restore the confidence of litigants who want to get speedy justice on merit basis and keeping in view the expectations of all concerned, all possible efforts were being made to minimise the pendency of cases in trail courts. He said lawyers are respectable sections of society who had played pivotal role in upholding law and justice and their active participation and cooperation would further help in speedy trail of cases and prompt decisions.

The LHC CJ said that in order to fulfil the shortfall of judges, 600 new civil judges will become part of judiciary system up to September 2015 while induction of new additional and session judges would also be completed by the end of current year.

The chief justice said that it has been decided that under trail cases in high court up to 2007 will be decided by the end of July 2015. Similarly, targets for district level cases have also been fixed. These steps have been adopted to speed up the process of under trail cases, he added.

Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik said he is well aware of the difficulties of lawyers and efforts would be made to resolve their grievances. He also lauded the role of office bearers of lawyer’s organisations in mitigating the sufferings of lawyers.
