FPSC revises scheme, syllabi of CSS examination

The Federal Public Service Commission has revised the scheme and syllabi of forthcoming CSS Competitive Examination 2016 and onwards.

FPSC has notified for information of aspirants of CSS Competitive Examination that syllabi is being changed recognizing the need to align the subjects and syllabi of CSS Exam, which were last revised in 1981, with emerging global trends and for netting high talent and quality fabric for the civil service, said a press release.

According to revised scheme of subjects, the aspirants of CSS Competitive Examination are required to attempt papers of 1200 marks in following compulsory and optional subjects.

Compulsory subjects of 600 marks will consist of English Essay, English (Precis and Composition), General Science and Ability, Current Affairs, Pakistan Affairs, Islamic Studies or Comparative Study of Major Religions (For Non Muslims) each carrying 100 marks.

The candidates are required to choose optional subjects of 600 marks from following groups as per rules indicated below:

Group-1: One subject of 200 marks can be opted from Accountancy and Auditing, Economics, Computer Science, Political Science, International Relations; Group-2: One subject of 200 marks or two subjects of 100 marks each can be opted from Physics (200 marks), Chemistry (200 marks), Applied Mathematics (100 marks), Pure Mathematics (100 marks), Statistics (100 marks), Geology (100 marks).

Group-3: One subject of 100 marks can be opted from Business Administration, Public Administration, Governance and Public Policies, Town Planning and Urban-Management.

Group-4: One subject of 100 marks can be opted from History of Pakistan and India, Islamic History and Culture, British History, European History, History of USA.

Group-5: One subject of 100 marks can be opted from Gender Studies, Environmental Sciences, Agriculture and Forestry, Botany, Zoology, English Literature, Urdu Literature.

Group-6: One subject of 100 marks can be opted from Law, Constitutional Law, International Law, Muslim Law and Jurisprudence, Mercantile Law, Criminology, Philosophy.

Group-7: One subject of 100 marks can be opted from Journalism and Mass Communication, Psychology, Geography, Sociology, Anthropology, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pushto, Balochi, Persian, Arabic.

Detailed syllabi of compulsory and optional subjects have been placed on FPSC website www.fpsc.gov.pk .

Competitive Examination – 2016 will be held from February 18, 2016 onwards. However, notice for online applications will be issued in last week of September 2015.
