Taliban commander among 3 killed in Kunar drone strikes

A senior Taliban commander among three was killed in an early morning drone strike in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan.

Abdul Habib Sayedkhili, police chief of Kunar province says that the drone targeted militant hideouts in Dara-i-Pech District around 6am Sunday. He said three Taliban including Mullah Abid, a senior commander of the group, were killed in the strike. He said that civilians were not harmed during the air strike.

In the meantime, Sayedkhili says security forces are trying to reopen the road passing through Ghazi Abad and Nari districts which is blocked by Taliban since Friday. But he said that anyone trying to reopen the road, Taliban fire on them.

He said that the road is also used by the residents of Kamdish and Bargmatal districts of neighboring Nooristan province, adding that the blockade has also created problems for the people of Nooristan province.

Hafiz Abdul Qayoum, governor of Nooristan province asked central government to make necessary arrangement to reopen the road.
