A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee for Electoral Reforms has been summoned on Wednesday at the Parliament House.
According to sources, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) chairman would brief the meeting about introduction of biometric system in the elections.
According to National Assembly Secretariat, the committee has held several meetings and one sub-committee is regularly working under Zahid Hamid, which has been tasked to draw up proposals on different matters.
Sources said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has not been formally invited for the April 15 meeting as the party had not nominated any member to the sub-committee and in connection party’s vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi will contact Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
One of the key demands of the PTI are making the election commission independent to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.
The sources said the committee would draw up recommendations for electoral reforms in the light of briefing on biometric system by the NADRA chairman.
