Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) workers clashed with each other late on Friday in the NA-246 constituency where by-election will be held on April 23.

According to reports, the clash erupted when a JI rally was passing from a nearby MQM election camp in the Sharifabad area. The situation got tense after unidentified persons pelted the passing vehicles with stones when JI workers chanted slogans against MQM. Several JI workers were reportedly injured in the clash.

Accusing MQM for attacking their rally, JI leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman claimed that JI candidate from NA-246 Rashid Naseem was the target of the attack.

Responding to the accusation, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari criticised the JI leadership for their choice of words. “MQM is ready to sit down with all the parties and work out a policy of cooperation,” said the MQM leader.
