The word ‘neutral’ was introduced in the resolution on Yemen on the insistence of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), sources said on Friday, adding that the word was added after an hour-long debate in parliament.

The resolution on Yemen was presented in the joint session by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and not by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif as the PTI had shown no confidence in the defence minister.

Sources said that Pakistan has decided to play the role of mediator in the Yemen crisis. A Pakistani delegation will visit Saudi Arabia, Iran and Middle East countries while Iran will be asked to tell the Houthi tribe to halt its actions and make efforts for the restoration of the government in Yemen, they added.

PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi told reporters after the session that his party had played a key role in formulating the Yemen resolution.

Qureshi said the proposal presented by the Foreign Office was not satisfactory therefore the PTI had recommended some additions to it which were then accepted unanimously.
