Former senator of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Zafar Ali Shah Monday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the return of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to the Parliament.

Zafar Ali Shah in his petition stated that PTI’s return to the assemblies is unconstitutional. He argued that if a member of the assembly resigns and the speaker does not approve his resignation, then the resignation is itself accepted constitutionally.

Shah said that PTI participated in Monday’s joint session of the Parliament in contrast with the Constitution. The petitioner named Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, opposition leader Khursheed Shah, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and PTI members as parties to the case.
