KARACHI:

Police on Saturday brought two suspected militants of the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and as many suspected killers of a policeman to an anti-terrorism court in a rickshaw and a Suzuki Hi-roof to obtain their remand.

Despite the fact that some alleged militants had managed to escape when they were transported to courts from police stations in rickshaws, Investigation Officer Rana Abdul Jabbar along with two constables brought the two ‘TTP militants’ — Tayyab and Tassaduq — to the ATC-II in a rickshaw.

The IO claimed that he had no other option but to use a rickshaw since no police mobile van was available.

But the careless act embarrassed senior police officials to the extent that they ensured suspension of IO Jabbar of the Orangi Town police station and IO Saleem Naz of the Iqbal Market police station who used a Suzuki Hi-roof to transport two suspects.

Wahid alias Sajjad and Qamar alias Kami have been booked and arrested for allegedly killing head constable Mehboob Alam in March last year within the jurisdiction of the Iqbal Market police station.

After the end of their physical remand, the police brought them in a private vehicle, a Suzuki Hi-roof, to the court.

The police arrested Mohammad Ashraf and a case was registered against him at the New Karachi Industrial Area police station. The police took the suspect to court in a taxi.
