Zardari to put his foot down for party-based LB polls

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday said that upcoming local body elections should be held on party basis.

Addressing a meeting of the party officer bearers of Karachi, including districts Malir, South, West, Central, East and Korangi, at Bilawal House, the PPP co-chairman directed party office bearers to start public campaign and PPP will soon hold public gatherings throughout the country in this regard.

Bakhtwar Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Faryal Talpur, Sherry Rehman, Senator Saeed Ghani, Waqar Mehdi, Rashid Rabbani, Najmi Alam and others attended the meeting.

The former president said, “There is a “strong bond” between PPP and people of Pakistan. The PPP and masses have not left each other in their difficult times and this relationship will last forever like past.”

While rejecting the non-party basis elections to be held in the Cantonment areas in the month of April, Zardari said that the local body elections should be held on party basis in the cantonment areas like other cities and villages of country. “If government will not consider the very demand of people of Pakistan then PPP will present the people case in the honourable courts,” he added.
