Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chairman Altaf Hussain on Saturday said that MQM does not believe in violence and militancy. He said that there was no place for criminals in the party either.

Addressing workers in over 20 cities of US and Canada on the party’s 31st foundation day, Altaf Hussain said that “shameless” allegations were levelled against MQM through a statement forced out of death-row inmate Saulat Mirza. “This is nothing but an attempt to harm MQM’s image worldwide,” he added.

“We were told the operation in Karachi will be without any discrimination but only MQM is being targeted,” he said, adding that over 100 MQM workers have been killed, hundreds arrested while dozens are missing.

“The MQM stands besides the Pakistan Army despite raids on MQM headquarter,” he said.

The MQM chief again offered to step down from the party position “if workers are ready to accept the party without him”.
